This sheep-size mammal was an unspecialized plantigrade belonging to the extinct group called Pantodonts, which are among the first terrestrial animals to develop into large sizes, filling the niche left vacant by the demise of the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous. Pantolambda was probably omnivorous.
