Type Specimen:
Parexus is recognized by its obscenely large anterior dorsal fin spine. Several fossils have been discovered from the Early (Lower) Devonian Period of Tillywhandland, Scotland. Besides P. recurvus, a second species, P. falcatus also from Scotland has also been described.
