Type Horizon and Locality: Late Early Cretaceous to Early Late Cretaceous, Liangtoutang Formation (Albian-Cenomanian) Jinyun County, Zhejiang Province, China
Type Specimen: ZMNH M8963, an almost complete skull and partial postcranial skeleton
Jinyunpelta ("Jinyun shield") is the most basal and earliest ankylosaur with a well-developed club tail. It is also the best preserved ankylosaur from southern China, known from the incomplete remains of at least two individuals.
