Type Horizon and Locality: Late Triassic, Alemoa member, Santa Maria Formation (Carnian), Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
Type Specimen: MCZ 1669, partial skeleton
Staurikosaurus ("Southern Cross Lizard") was a small and agile bipedal predator. It is known from a very incomplete skeleton so all reconstructions are highly hypothetical. It probably still five fingers and five toes, as its close relative Herrerasaurus from Argentina, a very primitive features among dinosaurs.
